Finally Final- Finalization!

"Finalization" is the term used in the adopting world to signify 100% that you are the legal parent. Finalization means that, if for some crazy reason, birthdad finds out or cares that he fathered Megan, he can't get her, no matter what. It means we're finally safe... woohoo!

Last night, I couldn't sleep. Last night, I thought for sure this was all too good to be true. I thought for sure that something would happen that would prevent us from Finalization today. I thought for sure that the Judge would be sick, or I thought for sure that all the papers got lost, or I thought for sure the birthdad would show up at the last minute and demand his rights be given. I thought for sure things would go foul, because they always have in the past.

But that was then. Everything before Megan was hard and horrible and gut-wrenchingly difficult. As soon as Meg came home, life became amazing. Not that just the two of us wasn't wonderful... my husband is the best man I know and I love him dearly... but because we became complete. At least for now. Ah. I'm so happy.

Here is Judge Lynn W. Davis, who granted us our Legal Happiness. Isn't that cute how he dressed up Megan in his robe and gavel?

The 4 of us:

Family who came to share in the love (thanks, everyone!):
Megan & Evie (our friends had their court session directly after ours, in the same room): On Friday we get to be sealed in the Provo Temple and we are so excited! Then, she'll be ours forever. I'm sure I'm going to ball my eyes out. But, that'll be another post... :)

Congratulations! I love Judge Davis. He married my husband and I. I've been in his courtroom many times for work and he always talks of his love of adoptions and how he feels so greatful to be able to finalizing so many cases!! What a wonderful, special day.

This is, of course, the best news I've ever heard from you. I'm so happy for you.

Judge Davis was in my stake presidency in high school. He's awesome.

You're so good at making me cry :-) I just love it! The picture of Megan with her little friend is actually what got me the most. I never get tired of telling people the amazing stories of both little girls adoptions.
